Cape Town: Skipper Adam Gilchrist has backed his Deccan Chargers teammate Andrew Symonds to perform well in the DLF Indian Premier League and use it as a platform for the Ashes. Gilchrist said that with a fine performance at the DLF IPL the aggressive all-rounder can force his way into Australia’s squad for the upcoming Ashes series. “Symos” has been picked in Australia’s one-day squad for the upcoming series against Pakistan and also features in the list of probables for the Twenty20 World Cup. The former Australian opening batsman Gilchrist believes that explosive batsman’s Test career is not over either. “If he can get back to form and prove his worth then hopefully he can get back into the Australian team”, Gilchrist said. Gilchrist and Symonds flew to South Africa this week to prepare for the second edition of DLF Indian Premier League where they take on Kolkata Knight Riders on April 19. “He is a valuable player”, he added.
